A BT-2X charge controller was a blaster component that allowed for a controlled overcharge of power cells. By 3 ABY, the possession of a charge controller was a crime in the Galactic Empire. A group of slicers had stored a BT-2X charge controller at a hideout in the South Jundland Wastes region of the desert planet Tatooine.

In 3 ABY, the scoundrel Kay Vess heard about the BT-2X charge controller at the slicer's hideout. She later visited the hideout, recovered and used the charge controller to upgrade her VM-19 heavy blaster pistol's power module.
