The composite armor was an assault armor popular among spacers and criminals during the Galactic Civil War. It was a heavy armor type, made of modern, synthetic materials. It offered a high degree of protection against kinetic damage but lesser protection from energy-based weapons like blasters. The complete armor set included helmet, breastplate, left and right biceps, left and right bracers, gloves, pants and boots. It was available in several colors.
Variants of this armor included the Demolitionist armor appreciated by commandos, the Stalker armor worn by bounty hunters and the Field Command armor sometimes used by officers.
After the Battle of Yavin, composite armors were used by Sith Shadow thugs. A composite armor helmet was also worn by the Mauler Usurper. In 1 ABY, a trader encountered the Sanyassan Marauder armorsmith Macchbraus on the Forest Moon of Endor. Macchbraus requested the trader to craft him bone, padded, Mabari and composite armors in exchange for teaching him to create Marauder armors.
