Hyperdrive converter

A hyperdrive converter was a component of a hyperdrive—a propulsion system that allowed a starship to reach lightspeed. Before the Rebel Alliance transport Spirit of Jedha left the rebel outpost on the planet Lowik in 3 ABY, the mechanic Private Blanch Sproull checked the ship's hyperdrive converter. As the Spirit of Jedha was mid–hyperspace jump, however, the transport stalled, dropping it out of hyperspace along the Terminus Hyperspace Route where it came under attack from pirates of the Ohnaka Gang.

Unbeknownst to Sproull, the Spirit of Jedha commander—Commander Hill Purpura—had sabotaged the ship's hyperdrive motivator after becoming disillusioned with the rebel cause. That year, Sproull told the bounty hunter Beilert Valance about their checking of the hyperdrive converter—believing that was the case of the transport's malfunction—while they guarded Valance as he was imprisoned aboard the Spirit of Jedha. The mechanic later discovered the sabotaged motivator, as well as Purpura's involvement in the incident.
