The ion capacitor charge was a weapon component that unleashed a burst of ionic energy that could stun organic beings. It could be used in the manufacture of smoke grenades to add an ionic effect to the grenades. By 3 ABY, the Galactic Empire had stored a capacitor in the western turbolaser that guarded its Imperial Comm Station on the Outer Rim moon Toshara.

In 3 ABY, the scoundrel Kay Vess heard the ion capacitor charge that was stored at the turbolaser. She later retrieved the item from turbolaser and used it to the modify her smoke grenades.
