An Octoneedle (Japanese: オクトニードル) was a hovering droid used by the Galactic Empire to protect the corridors and walkways in their first Death Star. They appeared as spheres with eight needle-like protrusions which were at least partially retractable.
Luke Skywalker, just prior to rescuing Princess Leia Organa in 0 BBY, encountered these droids while exploring the Death Star.
