Repeating ion cannon

Repeating ion cannons were a type of starship-mounted ion cannon used to disable enemy ships. They were less powerful than other ion cannons, but their high rate of fire was advantageous against close-formations of starfighters and point defense systems. Each repeating ion cannon's pulse carried less charge and could have higher energy requirements that the standard ion cannon's. Some starship captains have found their own ships drifting in space due to their systems being overloaded or drained by the repeating ion cannon's energy requirements. Repeating ion cannons typically cost 6,000 credits on the market and notable models included the Sienar Fleet Systems Mk III Cycling Ion Cannon and the Oriolanis Defense Systems K5 "Ion Storm" Defense Battery.
