A sensor scrambler was a type of sensor jammer that could be equipped to starships in order to disrupt the electromagnetic signatures of illicit cargo. However, some pirates and syndicates specifically searched for these disrupted signals, allowing them to find potential targets for raiding.

In 3 ABY, the scoundrel Kay Vess paid a starship mechanics five hundred credits and supplied them with two Cargo signature scramblers in order to install sensor scramblers in the hold of the Trailblazer, her EML-850 light freighter. This allowed her and ND-5 to take contracts smuggling illicit cargo such as spice.
