A survey scope was a type of viewing device that consisted of a black cuboid with a viewer on one side and a lens on the other. This sat atop a black tripod that made the device roughly waist height on an adult human. The Imperial engineer Colonel Soden Petigar had a survey scope set up on the Aldhani dam on the planet Aldhani in 5 BBY and used it to view the descent of a meteor that raced overhead.
