Watto's chance cube

Legends Canon version →

Legends. This article is part of Legends: the expanded-universe stories that Lucasfilm set apart from canon in 2014.

Watto's chance cube was the personal chance cube owned by Watto, a Toydarian junk dealer living on the planet Tatooine. A six-sided chance cube, the faces of Watto's cube were colored red and blue and was loaded in his favor. In 32 BBY, Watto was challenged to a wager by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn to release his slaves, Anakin and Shmi Skywalker. Unwilling to lose both of his slaves, Watto insisted that the wager decide the fate of only one of them. When Jinn asked for Anakin to be freed, Watto insisted they let fate decide and rolled his chance cube. If it came up blue, then Anakin would be freed. If it was red, Shmi. Despite the cube being weighted in Watto's favor, Jinn used the Force to alter the roll to his desired outcome.
