B-3PO was a 3PO aboard a starship that had been attacked by pirates, who killed all sentient beings, except for Pax Maripher, who had managed to hide himself. Two of the protocol droids aboard the ship, Z-3PO and G-3PO, discovered Maripher, prompting B-3PO to investigate. The droids raised Maripher, who was eventually rescued after fifteen years.
