Dannis Veriga

Dannis Veriga was an admiral in the Republic Navy of the Galactic Republic during the Galactic War with the reconstituted Sith Empire. In 3636 BBY, the Eternal Empire invaded the rest of the galaxy, and Veriga was in charge of the Republic forces tasked with protecting the Core Worlds planet Alderaan when the Eternal Empire's Eternal Fleet arrived in the Alderaan system.

After the Eternal Fleet dropped out of hyperspace in a wall of starships moving synchronously, Veriga's forces were quickly overwhelmed and were unable to make any significant dent in the fleet, so Veriga ordered a retreat—although that order ultimately only managed to save half of the Republic forces at Alderaan. The admiral was court-martialed in the aftermath for abandoning the planet, and during the trial expressed a belief that dying in an effort to stop the Eternal Empire would be pointless.
