Dep Aila was a scientist who lived on the planet Makeb. He was the first scientist to document the amphibian known as the barbed ginx, though he only encountered them by accident—after leaving his landspeeder unattended, he came back to find a small group of ginx had peeled off the vehicle's outer casing in search of food.
