Norwich was an officer who served in the military of the New Republic during the Galactic Civil War, with the rank of commander. Norwich fought with Republic forces against the Galactic Empire at Nag Ubdur, and was almost interviewed by journalist Tracene Kane shortly after the Imperial massacre at Binjai-Tin. However, Kane opted to go for someone with more of a frontline perspective, settling on Kupohan Private Rorith Khadur.
