Porter was a human pilot who served as a captain in the Starfighter Corps of the New Republic after the fall of the Galactic Empire. He used the callsign Spectre Two-One as part of an E-wing starfighter squadron stationed on the planet Lothal, where he flew alongside Lieutenant Callahan.
When Alliance veteran Sabine Wren failed to attend a ceremony in Lothal's capital, Governor Ryder Azadi assigned Porter and Callahan the task of locating the missing Commander.
