Xanar

Xanar was a male Gormak living on Voss during the Galactic War. He was the first to witness the Shining Man, also known as Albathius, land in the Chamber of Ashes. Intrigued by the offworlder, Xanar obsessively studied him from afar as the Shining Man spent three moons studying the Voss ways and fabricated a prophecy and was changed by the experience, before eventually departing to join Voss culture. Though the Shining Man set his starship to self-destruct to erase any evidence, Xanar managed to slice its computer. Using computer, he learned to speak Basic and learned much of the world beyond Voss, distancing him even further from his people. He patiently waited for the Shining Man's return near his starship in the Dark Heart of the Nightmare Lands for many moons. Finally, another outsider came - Cipher Nine of the Imperial Intelligence. Xanar approached the new outsider, demanding the Imperial take him to the Shining Man, who he wanted to meet to learn his techniques of infiltration, in exchange for the data in his ship. Upon hearing Cipher Nine claim that the Shining Man had died, Xanar rejected it as a lie, after which the Gormak attacked and tried to kill the agent, only for his opponent to fatally wound him. With his dying breath, Xanar reactivated the Shining Man's starship's self-destruct in an attempt to kill Cipher Nine. After Xanar expired, Cipher Nine quickly retrieved the data from his body and fled to avoid being caught in the explosion.

The Star Cabal was aware of Xanar's existence, referring to him as their "special Gormak friend."
