Attack on Bathoris

Canon Linked from 4 articles

According to legend, many years before 1032 BBY, the Sith Lord Darth Caldoth attacked the Jedi temple on the astronomical object Bathoris after learning that a rare fragment of a fresco relating to the ancients and their use of the Force had been transferred there after being uncovered in a Jedi expedition. Members of the Jedi Order at the temple were caught by surprise, and the attack initially went well for Caldoth, who killed many Jedi Temple Guards and several Jedi Knights. However, the Jedi Knight Bran Ath'Morath repelled Caldoth from the temple's inner sanctum and kept him locked in a duel until enough of the surviving Jedi rallied and forced Caldoth to retreat. Caldoth was shaken by his defeat, and so the Nightsisters—witches who were Caldoth's enemies—decided to take revenge on Caldoth by performing a ritual allowing the Nightsister Zeldin to manipulate his thoughts. Over several years, she made multiple failed attempts to kill Caldoth through her influence, including influencing him to engage in another duel with Ath'Morath.
