Operation Free Will was one of the small operations that were led by Luke Skywalker against the increasing activity of the Galactic Empire, in 1 ABY. After the Battle of Yavin, during the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance struggled for the control of several cities in the galaxy. During periods of Rebel occupation of the cities of Anchorhead, Coronet City or Theed, Luke Skywalker landed in these three cities aboard his shuttle Narrow Margin. Accompanied by a group of Rebel commandos, the young man attempted to rally support for the Alliance cause and recruit troops for dangerous missions against the Empire. Skywalker recruited a group of skillful spacers affiliated with the Alliance to hunt down military forces of the Empire. The spacers subsequently traveled in the galaxy and killed twenty-five elite stormtroopers in Imperial-controlled cities. The successful Rebel spacers were later assigned to Operation Brassvine.
