The Solaest system was located in the Belsmuth sector in the Trans-Hydian portion of the Outer Rim Territories. The Salin Corridor hyperspace route linked it to the Belsmuth, Katraasii, New Bornalex, and Shadren systems as well as the Phindar system of the Demetras sector. The system also shared its name with the Solaest Fleet Long Range Patrol Wing of the Galactic Empire.
The Solaest system contained the planet of the same name. At some point between 2 BBY and 0 BBY, Solaest was the site of the Solaest Uprising, which was suppressed by the forces of the Empire as part of its wider attempts to crack down on the activities of its enemy during the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Alliance. The uprising resulted in extensive civilian casualties. During the uprising, the Solaest system was also visited by the Human Imperial Senator and secret Alliance member Leia Organa on her consular starship, the Tantive IV.
