Cousin

Cousin was the second-highest family rank of the Chiss Ascendancy. In the Chiss hierarchy, it was situated above the rank of ranking distant but below the rank of blood. The children of ranking distants were born as cousins. Those who held the rank of cousin possessed some of the same rights and privileges as blood, including the right to make personal declarations of family.

Mid Captain Samakro held the rank of cousin of the Ruling Ufsa family. Syndic Thrass held the rank of cousin of the Ruling Mitth family. Before his birth, his father was killed saving the life of the Mitth Patriarch Thooraki. As thanks, the Patriarch rematched Thrass's mother into the Mitth familly as a ranking distant. Therefore, Thrass was born a Mitth cousin.
