Spices were a variety of natural substances that could be used to flavor and season foods and drinks throughout the galaxy. A notable spice was salt, used to flavor food such as noodles. Anilam was a powdered spice made from Izy-leaves that could give people gas, and could be used in pudding. Munka was a type of salt found on Tatooine , and was considered as valuable as gold, although it was worth very little on a galactic scale.
It shared its name with a variety of addictive and often illegal narcotic drugs.
