Legends Canon version → Linked from 6 articles

Legends. This article is part of Legends: the expanded-universe stories that Lucasfilm set apart from canon in 2014.

Trial-born was a family rank of the Chiss Ascendancy. In the Chiss hierarchy, it was situated above merit adoptive and below the rank of ranking distant. The Chiss individuals reached the rank by being "born to trial." Unlike the merit adoptives, the Trial-born were given the opportunity of being permanently matched to the family. In some cases, a Trial-born could be granted the rank of a ranking distant. Trial-borns could have a hearing at a family stronghold to renounce their family rank.
