Ytterbium, in its stabilized form, was a material vital in the production of laser cannons. In thermal wells, ytterbium was used as a stabilizer to make the baradium in the explosive less hazardous. Ytterbium was found on the planet Sarrahban in the Sarrahban system. The Alliance managed to extract all of Sarrahban's stabilized ytterbium during the Imperial invasion of the planet.
