The Pre-Corellian alphabet was a writing system used on the Core Worlds planet Corellia. It was derived from the Rakatan writing system and therefore related to the Aurebesh alphabet, Durese syllabary, and Axumite abjad. Although it used Rakatan symbols, the structure of the alphabet was completely different from Rakatan, which was logographic. The alphabet shared its name with the Pre-Corellian language.
Despite ultimately being derived from the same source, the Pre-Corellian alphabet did not spread as successfully as Aurebesh. It was used aboard Corellian starships for a thousand years after the foundation of the Galactic Republic until Aurebesh fully supplanted it. The alphabet's history was eventually described in 38 ABY publication "The Written Word: A Brief Introduction to the Writing Systems of Galactic Basic" by the xenolinguist Doctor Milanda Vorgan.
