Galactic Federation of Free Alliances

The Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, also known as the Federal Galactic Republic, but most commonly known as the Galactic Alliance, was an interstellar federal republic formed out of the New Republic during its decline in the Yuuzhan Vong War. Incorporating most of the known galaxy, the Galactic Alliance was the first government to achieve this since the Galactic Empire.

Between 40 and 41 ABY, the term New Order was applied to the Alliance for a short period of time. The rest of the time it was referred to as the Old Order.

Following the restoration of the Galactic Empire as the Fel Empire, the Alliance and the Empire coexisted in relative peace for decades, but after the beginning of the Sith–Imperial War in 127 ABY, the Alliance lost the fight against the Empire and accepted their new Imperial overlords.

During the seven years of Sith control, Admiral Gar Stazi led a resistance movement known as the Galactic Alliance Remnant against Darth Krayt's Sith Empire.

In the aftermath of the Second Imperial Civil War, the Galactic Alliance united with the Fel Empire and the Jedi Order to form the Galactic Federation Triumvirate.
