The Special Acquisitions Branch of the Library of the Republic was a premiere data-location service of the Galactic Republic during its later years, and one of the Republic's four major intelligence agencies.

Sometime after 539 BBY its Director was the Tiss'shar Tra-Skan-Lor, a devotee of the recently released Sayings of Uueg Tching of Atrisia and made his subordinates familarise themselves with the works, causing the Sayings to become deeply embeded within the Branch's culture ever since. Familiar with the Atrisian script, the personnel used the script as an informal in-house cipher.

In the years leading up to and during the Clone Wars, the agency fell victim to corruption and senatorial misuse. To counteract this, the organization's director met in secret with the directors of the three other major intelligence agencies, all of whom voted to quietly merge their agencies into a single organization. After the rise of the Empire, this combined agency emerged as Imperial Intelligence under the direction of former SBI director Armand Isard.
