Unidentified manufacturer

A droid manufacturing company had manufactured the R1-M8 service droid by the time of the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire. By around 3643 BBY, several R1-M8 droids malfunctioned and attacked their owners. The malfunctions were the result of the actions of a rookie slicer who sought to sabotage the company.

Around that year, an individual associated with one of the two opposing sides of the Cold War sent a companion to learn the cause of the malfunctioning R1-M8 service droids. The companion traced the malfunction back to the slicer, who was arrested, and the manufacturing company provided a reward for his arrest.
