The Benkal Plagues were a series of widely-known disease outbreaks that occurred at some point by the time of the existence of the New Republic and originated in the Benkal system of Wild Space. The outbreaks were caused by a group of mercenaries which, in a personal addendum to his datafiles, the New Republic scout Korren Starchaser compared to the ultra-violent Happy Blasters mercenary team.
