The C-Viper series was a proposed modification of the Viper probe droid by Arakyd Industries. After the success of the Viper probe droid, Arakyd sought to produce streamlined versions for the wider commercial market. Arakyd planned to replace much of the military-grade armaments and programming with commercial versions, and the droid was intended to be marketed as a security droid. The droid was intended to be of capable of augmenting spaceport security forces, assisting with traffic control, analyzing cargo, pursuing criminals, and located crashed spacecraft. The C-Viper was also going to be cheaper than the Viper.
In anticipation of sales of the C-Viper, Arakyd established a civilian sales division on Byblos who would sell the droid once prototypes were completed. Arakyd also purchased land on Kelada to construct a new assembly factory to produce the new droid and its components.
