Carbonyl was a type of substance that could be found on the Cularin system moon Ostfrei during the Clone Wars near to a hidden pirate base that was in operation .

Circa 21 BBY, a group of freelance agents investigating reports of suspicious activity on Ostfrei located the concealed pirate base by using a portable chemical scanner to track a trail of carbonyl ions and ionized methyl that led to the pirate installation.
