Methyl was a type of substance present on the Cularin system moon Ostfrei in the vicinity of a concealed pirate base that was active during the Clone Wars.
Around 21 BBY, a group of freelance agents were hired by the Tarasin senatorial aide Sa'arli to investigate reports of suspicious activity on Ostfrei. The freelancers tracked the location of the hidden pirate base by using a portable chemical scanner to follow a trail of ionized methyl and carbonyl ions that led to the facility.
