A holojournal was a type of holorecorder with which a being could record information.
During her years with the Lars family, Shmi Skywalker Lars kept a holojournal where she recorded events almost every day. Many years later, it came into the possession of her granddaughter Leia Organa Solo and from reading the diary, Leia gained a faint sense of what her father was like before becoming Darth Vader and learned to forgive him. She also wonder that if her father found the journal, he would never turn to the Dark Side.
During the Yuuzhan Vong War, someone published a fraudulent holojournal that was claimed to have been recorded by Elegos A'Kla while he was with the Yuuzhan Vong, and made considerable money in selling it. This holojournal contained supposed information on Vong cultural law, such as that a fallen Yuuzhan Vong leader is always immolated. However, as Mara Jade Skywalker pointed out, the Yuuzhan Vong would have smashed every bit of technology that A'Kla took with him and so the journal was fake.
