Shield operator was a position held by crew members of the Galactic Empire's Death Star II battle station that included controlling the station's deflector shield. In 4 ABY, the Death Star Trooper Jad Bean was stationed as a shield operator and flight controller on the Death Star's overbridge control center when Captain Yorr of the Imperial shuttle ST 321 contacted him via comms to request the shield be deactivated. Once Bean had received confirmation of Yorr's code transmission, he flipped a switch that sent a signal to the Death Star's shield generator on the moon Endor, causing a section of the station's shield to be temporarily disabled as ST-321 passed through.
