Species

A species was a group of living organisms that shared a fixed set of observable biological characteristics. The galaxy and its many planets were teeming with diverse species. Some species were sentient, capable of intelligent thinking, while others were not, with more than twenty million sentient species in the galaxy. The majority of known species, both sentient and non-sentient, exhibited a carbon-based biochemistry. However, a smaller subset of life forms possessed alternative biochemical structures, including silicon-based, and mercury-based biochemistries. All species organisms eventually died, though through the process of reproduction, new life was created to carry a species on another generation. Some species had subspecies, which was group of organisms a species capable of interbreeding with similar organisms, though had traits that were distinct to some traits in other members of the species.
