Imperial garrison post

The Imperial garrison post on the Atrivis sector planet Mantooine was the Galactic Empire's initial token military presence in the Mantooine system. The post was established after the Mantooine Liberators proved to be the most active resistance group in the Atrivis sector. Striking from the mountainous wilderness of their sparsely populated world, the Liberators promptly attacked the weak Imperial garrison and took its weaponry and equipment. However, the Liberators were inexperienced, occupying the post instead of retreating into the wilderness and boldly broadcasting a call to action for all of Mantooine to revolt against the Imperial government.

Thus, an Imperial strike fleet waiting in orbit of the moons of Fest in the neighboring Fest system decimated the Liberators. The massacre demonstrated the need for organized resistance; Travia Chan's Fest Resistance Group united with Loom Carplin's surviving Mantooine Liberators, forming the Atrivis Resistance Group which then joined the pan-galactic Rebel Alliance as its Atrivis Sector Force. By the time between 0 ABY and 3 ABY, the Atrivis Forces had helped destroy the Imperial orbital base that replaced Mantooine's garrison and fielded an army of several thousand Rebels that dominated the planet's rural countryside.
