Vensenor Flight Academy

Vensenor Flight Academy was a flight academy of the Galactic Empire based on the decommissioned Venator-class Star Destroyer Vensenor in orbit above the planet Arkanis. Overseen by Commandant Bythen Forral, a former starfighter ace, the flight academy trained naval officers and pilots. As one of two Arkanis academies, Vensenor Flight Academy commonly conducted joint exercises with Arkanis Academy, located on the planet surface. The flight school also possessed the Corellian corvette Gallant, often used by Forral for his personal business.

The commandant's reckless attitude helped to inspire students to find unorthodox solutions to their problems. Many of Forral's cadets struggled to maintain a military career or follow obscure regulations, but the school's graduates received far more combat decorations than average. Vensenor Flight Academy also produced more defectors than any school in the overall Imperial Academy system, mostly facilitated by deep-cover resistance recruiting agent Gola Chall. Working as a proctor, Chall had operated in secret at the academy for years and enjoyed the absolute trust of the commandant. Multiple investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing, while the Imperial Security Bureau erroneously believed that Forral's emphasis on independent thought was the root cause for treason. At one point, both Chall and Forral took keen interest in a popular cadet who was expected to become a legendary starfighter ace.
