Orbit

An orbit was the path followed by an object in its motion around another. Planets orbited stars, and moons orbited planets. Artificial objects like starships and space station could also describe an orbit around a celestial body.

When an object followed a highly elliptical orbit around another, the distance between those two bodies changed daily, as illustrated by the case of the moon Cynda and its planet, Gorse. Also, planetary rings were unlikely to form from space debris around a planet taking a highly ellipitcal orbit around its sun—in such a case, some debris would typically be ejected from the star system, and some others would be captured by the planet, falling towards its surface.

During the Invasion of Naboo, the Trade Federation blockaded the planet Naboo and kept a number of Droid Control Ships in orbit.
