Mina-Rau, or Xuretria, was an agricultural planet located in the Outer Rim Territories' D'Astan sector. It was home to an expansive farming industry with councils and settlements dotted among it. During the days of the Galactic Republic, the world was victim to raids from the Quillian bandits, which were driven off by Jedi Master Fondar Etzis. However, the assassin Corlis Rath murdered with a poison Etzis to draw out Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Jinn went to Mina-Rau with fellow Jedi Mace Windu and Aayla Secura, finding evidence that Etzis was poisoned. However, Rath was able to single out Jinn for a duel, ending with the assassin poisoning the Jedi. Windu and Secura took Jinn offworld in a critical condition to cure him.
By the time of the Galactic Empire, Mina-Rau's harvests relied a lot on undocumented workers, the Empire being known to let this slide. A group of mechanics who had fled Imperial occupation resided in Council 207, befriending others in the local community like Kellen. However, the Empire conducted an Imperial Supply Census in 4 BBY, arresting any undocumented that ran away as they went council by council. The mechanics kept track of the situation via Kellen and stayed cautious, but one of them, Bix Caleen, caught the eye of Imperial Lieutenant Krole.
When the Imperial auditing was set on their council, the mechanics made preparations to head to Eight Hundred Block on a fake work order provided by Kellen. However, Imperial forces moved into the area before they could leave. While the mechanic Brasso was arrested by Imperial troops, Caleen had another visit from Krole, who assaulted her. Caleen ended up killing Krole, and the mechanic and rebel spy Cassian Andor arrived to Mina-Rau in a stolen TIE Avenger prototype and attacked the Imperials holding Brasso. Caleen and the mechanic Wilmon Paak escaped with Andor, but Brasso was killed.
