Minntooine was a strategic planet located in the Outer Rim Territories and the Slice, within the Calamari sector's Minntooine system. The planet was controlled by the Commerce Guild prior to and during the Clone Wars, holding major corporate interests of the guild. Later, following the guild's signed allegiance with the Separatist Alliance, the Confederacy transformed the planet into a stronghold for their wartime purposes. During the war, Minntooine was protected by a force of Commerce Guild Diamond-class cruisers, Recusant-class light destroyers, and Commerce Guild corvettes and bombers.
At some point between 20 BBY and 19 BBY, the Commerce Guild had established a hub on the planet's surface. However, after the disappearance of the rogue Roonian Galactic Republic Commander Mekedrix, the hub was raided by the Death Wind execution squad, which was led by Mekedrix and set the entire city in flames, with its residents killed.
