Shawken was a planet in the Core Worlds that boasted one of the most ancient known civilizations in the galaxy, dating back to the Pre-Republic era. The Shawkenese were noted for their studies of science, technology and philosophy, and over the course of several millennia created achievements such as the low orbit-piercing Shawken Spire—one of the Twenty Wonders of the Galaxy—and the universe-destroying Shawken Device. In 4 ABY, after the withdrawal of Imperial forces from Shawken, the world became an early member of the new Alliance of Free Planets.
