Legends. This article is part of Legends: the expanded-universe stories that Lucasfilm set apart from canon in 2014.

The garbage hunters were non-sentient creatures native to the Deep Core planet Vulpter. The species evolved in response to the planet's extremely polluted environment and serves as a striking example of how scale and surroundings can shape evolution. Garbage hunters thrived in filthy urban zones, which were also plagued by rodent infestations. Roughly 2 meters long and waist-high to a Human, they resembled other four-legged rodents but bore a chitinous ridge along their backs that rose an additional meter above the spine. As a result, a garbage hunter burrowing through waste heaps resembled an ocean predator gliding through water, closing in on prey with only the slightest warning. Possessing darkvision up to 20 meters, they hunted efficiently in low-light conditions, combining agility, strength, and keen survival instincts to dominate the urban wastelands.
