Meter

The meter, known as the Imperial standard meter under the Galactic Empire, was an established unit of measurement for length used by the the galaxy. One meter equaled 100 centimeters, or 1000 millimeters, and was roughly equivalent to three feet. Despite being named after the Galactic Empire, the meter was also used during the Galactic Republic's reign as well.

After scouring the plans for the Death Star, General Jan Dodonna discovered that a small, exposed, thermal exhaust port led directly to the massive battle station's reactor core. The small exhaust port was only two meters wide, meaning a small starfighter would be able to attack the vulnerable exhaust port. Luke Skywalker expressed that this mission was not impossible, explaining the he used to bulls-eye womp rats in his T-16 back home, which were not much bigger than two meters. Skywalker eventually succeeded in firing a proton torpedo into the exhaust port and destroying the battle station during the Battle of Yavin.
