Merdeth

Merdeths were a type of huge insectoid that dominated the barren exterior of their homeworld, the Outer Rim planet Geonosis. Omnivores, they would eat any organic matter they came across, using eight powerful tentacles to pull prey into their mouths. The enormous merdeths formed a symbiotic relationship with swarms of tiny, parasitic mips that fed on ichor found between the merdeth's carapace.

In 22 BBY, small hangars that dotted the perimeter of the Geonosian Stalgasin hive's droid loading fields were equipped with Geonosian fighters that were ready to make lightning strikes against the occasional marauding merdeth. The merdeth's homeworld was sterilized by the Galactic Empire around 9 BBY.
