Merdeth

Merdeths were large creatures native to Geonosis. They were often prone to attack large groups of Geonosians, ur-greedles, and Acklays.

Bigger than a star freighter, merdeths looked visually similar to a smooth red boulder. They moved about on hundreds of tiny legs, and supported a massive shell that covered their bodies. The creature's head was armor-plated, and surrounded by eight tentacles used to draw prey into the merdeth's mouth. They were known to consume any organic material they encountered. Merdeths were often accompanied by a swarm of parasitic mips, which sucked ichor from underneath the merdeth's body. They also helped their host by scouting for prey and attacking them. The sight of an approaching merdeth and its attendent mips was reminiscent of a carrier launching squadrons of interceptors. Merdeths are slow, but nearly unstoppable. Since most animals can outrun them, they often attacks nests such as Geonosian hives, acklay dens, and even parked starships. This allowed them to corner their prey and feed on helpless young. They also relied on their mips to attack and slow down escaping prey.
