Gladiator-class Star Destroyer

The Gladiator-class Star Destroyer, otherwise simply referred to as the Gladiator, was a type of capital ship deployed by the Galactic Empire and its naval branch during its reign over the galaxy. Initially designed by starship designer Walex Cantwell Blissex I, the warship was designed to serve as a Star Destroyer escort for the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars, but was repurposed to perform as an independent, long-range patrol vessel. Capable of pacifying entire star systems for as long as two years without receiving supplies, the Gladiator-class operated a thousand-man crew of officers, pilots and other crew members, was the smallest of the Star Destroyers deployed by the Imperial Navy, measuring to 600 meters in length. The warship also held the capacity to perform system patrols, orbital bombardments and escort missions, and consisted of a variation of its line, which was designated the Gladiator I.

Throughout the reign of the Empire, Gladiator-class Star Destroyers saw deployment to hyperspace routes within the Outer Rim Territories, oftentimes without support vessels. At one point, an Imperial battle group stationed on the planet Ilum was led by the Hoplite, the flagship of Captain Malthegn. Later, during the Galactic Civil War, the warship was utilized for patrolling remote star systems, where they were to locate secret bases utilized by the Alliance to Restore the Republic. When Gladiators arrived in Alliance star systems, the Rebellion was left to remain hidden, evacuate their fortifications or attempt to destroy the Star Destroyer. At some point in the war, following the Battle of Yavin, the Gladiator I Blood Ambition, commanded by Captain Ralchio Nervi, led a task force to the planet Xorrn, following their discovery of insurgent activity on the planet.
