The Mataou fuel station orbited the world Mataou, which was situated in the Mataou system, a part of the Anoat sector. It was a part of the Greater Javin region within the Western Reaches portion of the Outer Rim Territories. The station circled Mataou at a safe distance above its dangerous desert surface and served as a refueling point for starships traveling along the Ison Corridor hyperlane.

At one point during the reign of the Galactic Empire, Solomahal, a drifter and freelance scout piloting the YV-888 freighter QuadStar, agreed to transport the fugitive Covah off the Arkanis sector planet Tatooine and into hiding from the Empire. As the QuadStar was departing Tatooine, Solomahal and Covah discussed possible locations in the Greater Javin at which the latter could hide, with the former suggesting the Mataou fuel station as an option and claiming that the Imperials would "never" look for the fugitive there.
