The VF-72 gunner ship was a model of military gunship used by the time of the New Republic. In 34 ABY, the mechanics Tamara Ryvora and Kazuda Xiono visited the loading docks of the supertanker fuel depot Colossus to acquire a CoMar Tri-Tracker chip in order to repair the station's anti-aircraft cannons. While at the docks, Ryvora theorized to the scavenger Synara San that such a chip could be salvaged from a VF-72 gunner ship or a Y-wing starfighter pulled from the oceans of the planet Castilon.
