A Datarec was a hand-held device used in the Unknown Regions to display information. The Agbui Haplif owned a datarec while conducting a plot to destroy the Chiss Ascendancy on behalf of the Grysk Hegemony. Haplif used his datarec to display information about planets of the Chiss Ascendancy.
When Haplif met the Grysk agent "Jixtus" on the planet Shihon during the Grand Migration of that planet's birds, both men carried datarecs.
