A Dropship Trap was a type of Starship Trap utilized by both the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire to defend their territory on planets like Tatooine. These circular devices serve as a proximity sensor when initially set, switching to a homing beacon once their sensor has been tripped. Faction dropships were then called to rapidly deploy ground troops in the area surrounding the trap, surprising enemies. Dropship Traps also featured a holoprojector, displaying the type of starship they would call in, with Alliance traps contacting requisitioned Low Altitude Assault Transports (LAATs) while Imperial traps contacted Imperial Dropship Transports (IDTs).
