Horn

Horns were a broad type of wind musical instrument, utilized by many different groups and cultures across the galaxy for different reasons. Most types of horns, like the Kloo horn, the F'nonc horn, or even Hypolliope horn cluster, could be used specifically for musical entertainment purposes, however, some also had secondary reasons for being utilized. Species like the Aki-Akis, Ewoks, and Wookiees used them for ceremonial purposes, often in rituals or celebrations. Civilizations like the Ferrixians sometimes incorporated types of horns in their funerary services. Certain armies used specific horns to communicate with soldiers in battle, such as the Mon Calamari Shell Horn and the Gungan Fambaa horn, or even to intimidate or overwhelm enemies, as we see with the Ewoks and their battle horns.

Sub-types of horns also existed, such as the trumpet and clarion, which ranged in both size and sound. They could also be constructed of many different materials, commonly including either the hollowed out horns of animals or metals such as bronzium. Lanai wharlithan horns consisted of the large horns of the wharlithans, while the nearly identical twinned erkehorns of the Aki-Aki species were constructed from both the horns and antlers of the titan-erke. The Wookiees' Kashyyyk clarions were comprised of bantha horns coated with an orange lacquer finish, jacketed with patterns of hand-hammered bronzium plating, and merged with wroshyr wood and cerulean gemstones insets. On occasion, specially crafted horns could be weaponized, with one such case being the Echo Horn, a sound-based weapon used by the Galactic Empire (and briefly the First Order) to control the Zixon species.
