Lava skimmer

The lava skimmer was a pole-mounted cauldron and used by the Mustafarians of Mustafar to collect lava from the planet's natural lava streams. These devices served as both crucible tongs and pouring shanks.

Lava skimmers consisted of a lava-proof metal shank tipped with a ratchet clamp with pressure-stop lock. This clamp could hold a lava-resistant ceramic cauldron, in which lava could be held. Southern Mustafarians had evolved powerful bodies, and were thus able to lift these heavy devices.

"Lava skimmer" was also a term used to describe those Mustafarians who employed these devices in their mining operations.
